Here, at the Oval Door Bed and Breakfast, we believe it vitally important that we make choices that have a positive impact on our environment. Since we purchased the inn in 1998, we have been slowly making changes that reflect this belief. While it has been a process, and not always the simplest (or most inexpensive!) choices, we are proud of what we have accomplished and where we are heading in the future. Our hope is that you can feel good about the choice you've made; to stay at The Oval Door.

What makes us "green"?

• We have an extensive recycling program that helps our inn recycle 70% of waste. Guest rooms are outfitted with receptacles, so that guests can also recycle.
• Our guest bathrooms are equipped with refillable shampoo, conditioner, and lotion dispensers to reduce plastic production and waste. Our soaps are vegetable based and packaged in 100% recyclable, non-bleached board.
• All our printed material is re-used for scratch paper and in-house memos. In addition, all in-house printing is done on 100% post consumer recycled paper. Our toilet paper, facial tissues, and paper towels are all made from recycled fibers.
• All cleaning agents and chemicals used to clean our inn have been replaced by non-toxic, environmentally safe products. This includes our laundry and dishwashing facilities.
• We never use any disposable food service items, such as paper and plastic cups, utensils and plates.
• Many of our inn's lights are Compact Fluorescent Lights and we are working toward replacing more.
• Our linen and towel re-use program greatly reduces laundry detergent and water usage
• All usable items are donated to local non-profit organizations (furniture, towels and linens, lost and found items, etc.)
• Many of our appliances and equipment are energy efficient models or will be replaced by an energy efficient model when the time comes to re-purchase. Our guest room toilets are eco friendly models and our bathroom flooring is natural material.
• Our landscaping is planted with native Oregon foliage that tolerates our natural water availability. Any watering that is done is in the early morning to minimize evaporation.
• We are a smoke free, pet free inn.
• We serve locally roasted, fair-trade certified, organic coffee.
